People who park in disability parking areas in Kingaroy’s CBD without a permit will be fined under a new parking plan approved by the South Burnett Regional Council.<\/p>\n

Motorists who park for more than 30 minutes in special bays outside Kingaroy’s Post Office – or who park for longer than three hours in the CBD area – will also risk fines.<\/p>\n

However, drivers who use the new George Street parking area on the northern side of Haly Street, the parking area behind the banks in Kingaroy Street or a section of the Glendon Street car park will be able to park for as long as nine hours.<\/p>\n

The changes were approved at March’s General Meeting.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Councillors moved to erect parking signs in the CBD area to advise motorists of the changed conditions and conduct a public awareness campaign before the changes come into force.<\/p>\n

They also approved the creation of a new Local Law which will legally empower the Council to issue fines for parking breaches.<\/p>\n

Once the new system is in place, police will also be able to fine motorists for CBD parking offences.<\/p>\n

Council officers told the meeting they hoped the community would co-operate with the new system, which has come about after complaints were received from shopkeepers that many parking bays were being occupied all day by CBD employees.<\/p>\n

Council officers plan to conduct random blitzes of the CBD to catch offenders.<\/strong><\/p>\n

However, the Council will also respond to complaints received from CBD traders or the public once the new system starts.<\/p>\n
