A date has been set for the official opening of Murgon’s “Ancient Songbird Centre” in Macalister Street.<\/p>\n

The building – which will feature a fossil museum, art gallery, garden, gift shop and a workshop area – will be opened at 11:00am on Saturday, May 20.<\/p>\n

The centre is a project of the Creative Country Association, which has been successful in getting Federal Government grants to help make the project a reality.<\/p>\n

Committee members had a display promoting the centre at Saturday’s Murgon Show.<\/p>\n

Murgon Business and Development Association president Leo Geraghty said Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien had been invited to do the opening honours.<\/p>\n

The internal fitout of the building is proceeding, with work on the central Prehistoric Garden almost finished.<\/p>\n

Leo said this area, which features a life-size model of a Pleistocene-era Diprotodon, would be the perfect place for visitors to relax in the shade and enjoy a coffee.<\/p>\n
