A special celebration was held at Cherbourg last week to mark the first anniversary of the Cherbourg Digital Service Centre, aka the call centre!<\/p>\n

Guests included representatives from the centre’s first clients, Fujitsu Asia Pacific, as well as the Minister For Communities and Housing, Digital Economy and the Arts Leeanne Enoch.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg Mayor Elvie Sandow said 12 months ago she had predicted Cherbourg would get QBuild as a client for the call centre. That had now happened, meaning an extra 20 jobs on top of the 10 already in place.<\/p>\n

“I have a passion for employment for local people,” Mayor Sandow said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The more employment for our local people, the more our families and our community are happy.”<\/p>\n

Minister Enoch began her speech with an acknowledgment in Jandai, the language of her Quandamooka people.<\/p>\n

She said the one-year anniversary was very important, and that Cherbourg was “leading the way” for Queensland.<\/p>\n

“You are the leading light now for many more who will see that this is possible … you’ve done the work, you’ve made everybody very, very proud,” Minister Enoch said.<\/p>\n

Fujitsu Asia Pacific Chief Executive Officer Graeme Beardsell said his company was pleased to be a small part of the successful partnership with Cherbourg.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said Fujitsu was using technology to open the door of inclusiveness.<\/p>\n

Mr Beardsell especially thanked the “first eight” employees of the call centre who have been delivering services to Australia Post.<\/p>\n

“The best rating team across the Asia Pacific is this team at Cherbourg,” he said.<\/p>\n

Call centre manager Emma Turaganivalu said hearing these words made her and her team so proud.<\/p>\n

“It makes us work a little harder and stand a little taller,” she said.<\/p>\n
