A bunch of veteran sportsmen dropped into Cherbourg on Thursday to pay their respects to some of the community’s sporting legends of the past.<\/p>\n

The visit was organised by Bob Webster, from the Australian Boxing Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n

He was joined by Phil Hall, of Queensland Schoolboy “Phil Hall Cup” rugby league\u00a0 fame; Olympic (1968 Mexico) and Commonwealth Games (1966 Jamaica) boxer John Rokowski; and Tom Burke, vice-president of the Boxing Supporters Association.<\/p>\n

They were joined by local boxing legend, Arthur “Bullet” Bradley, an inductee in the Queensland Boxing Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n

The group toured The Ration Shed Museum before visiting the graves of two of Cherbourg’s sporting heroes of the past, boxers Jeffrey “Mitta” Dynevor and Adrian Blair.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The pair were inducted into the Queensland Boxing Hall of Fame in 2019 and 2021 respectively.<\/p>\n

Mitta Dynevor was the Australian amateur Featherweight champion from 1957-59 and 1961-62 and fought at the 1962 Perth Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n

Adrian Blair was Australian Lightweight Champion in 1962 and 1964, fought at the 1962 Commonwealth Games and at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.<\/p>\n

The visiting sportsmen then travelled up to the Les Stewart Senior Sporting Complex where a Gala Sports Day was being held for students from Murgon and Cherbourg schools.<\/p>\n

At the Boxing Shed, the visitors presented Complex manager Lavina Dynevor with equipment donated by world-rated boxing referee Brad Vocale, a cousin of the late Lionel Rose.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The visitors also had the opportunity to see some of Cherbourg’s sporting stars of the future.<\/p>\n

Students from Cherbourg and Murgon schools were having fun testing their skills in basketball, rugby league and union, netball, cricket and on an obstacle course.<\/p>\n
