Darts clubs in Queensland are celebrating after the State Government finally recognised the activity as an official sport.<\/p>\n

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said this meant clubs would now be able to apply for sports grants, and children would be able to access FairPlay vouchers.<\/p>\n

She said up until now, the State Government had refused to deem darts as an eligible sport.<\/p>\n

In November 2020, Mrs Frecklington wrote to Sport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe seeking the change.<\/p>\n

Her advocacy was supported by the Member for Lockyer Jim McDonald and the Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett.<\/p>\n

In March this year, Mrs Frecklington tabled a petition in Parliament with hundreds of signatures supporting the change.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The petition was organised by Nanango electorate resident, Brisbane Valley Darts Association secretary Tami Leck.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said Tami has been a passionate advocate for recognising darts as a sport.<\/p>\n

“Thanks to the unrelenting passionate advocacy of Tami, common sense has prevailed and now clubs across the State can access grants,” Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n
