A large fire burning in thick scrub at Boondooma required teams of firefighters, a grader and a bulldozer to bring under control on Sunday night.<\/p>\n

Firefighters were called to the blaze, which began on a property off Jerrards Road, just before 2:00pm.<\/p>\n

A QFES spokesperson said eight fire crews and a senior officer were called to the incident.<\/p>\n

Initially, the fireground was estimated to be somewhere between 12-14ha, but by 10:30pm this figure had grown to 180ha.<\/p>\n

At 7:00pm, fire crews were conducting backburns to protect structures and a grader had been brought in to strengthen containment lines.<\/p>\n

A bulldozer cut firebreaks on the south-east side of the fireground, near Mundubbera-Durong Road.<\/strong><\/p>\n

SES volunteers were assisting with traffic control on the main road.<\/p>\n

Fire crews continued backburning into the night and returned on Monday morning to continue strengthening containment lines.<\/p>\n

The QFES spokesperson said the fire was burning safely within containment lines at 9:45am on Monday, and control had been handed back to the property owner.<\/p>\n

On social media, South Burnett councillor Kathy Duff thanked the rural fire crews for their assistance after the blaze spread on to her property, ‘Di Di’.<\/p>\n

“Thank you to the amazing volunteers from Ballogie, Coverty, Glencoe, Abbeywood and Mondure brigades. We will be forever indebted to you,” she wrote.<\/p>\n
