An E-petition has been lodged with the State Government urging Powerlink to locate the South Burnett transmission lines for the proposed Borumba Dam pumped hydro project in State Forests rather than private land.<\/p>\n

The petition, by Taromeo resident Pamela Townsend, has been sponsored by Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington.<\/p>\n

It reads:<\/p>\n

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House Powerlink\u2019s consideration of potential corridors for a new transmission line to connect the proposed Borumba Pumped Hydro project to the Tarong\/Halys substation. <\/em><\/p>\n

The corridors cut a swathe through private land, consuming vast tracks of ecological habitats and destroying regional communities. <\/em><\/p>\n

While the community accepts the importance of the project to Queensland\u2019s clean energy future, it is unfair to impose the associated transmission infrastructure on ordinary Queenslanders working hard to raise families, run successful businesses, secure their futures, look after the environment and ensure Australia\u2019s food security. <\/em><\/p>\n

As the project benefits the entire State, the associated burden should be borne by the State wherever possible.<\/em><\/p>\n

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to ensure that the transmission infrastructure required for the Borumba Project is built on existing State-owned land corridors, including State Forest, and that all available technology and infrastructure is used to minimise the impact on private landowners, the environment and the impact on traditional owners.<\/em><\/p>\n

The petition was posted on February 20 and will close on March 27.<\/p>\n

It had received 477 signatures by noon on Monday.<\/p>\n

A similar E-petition, launched by a Widgee resident in January over the northern Powerlink routes, attracted 2411 signatures before it was tabled in State Parliament on February 21.<\/p>\n
