Toowoomba Regional Council is about to start rolling out 22,000 smart water meters.<\/p>\n

The cost of the project – which includes their installation, operation and maintenance – has been estimated at $27.65 million over seven years.<\/p>\n

However, the majority of meter installations will occur during the next three years, beginning in March.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe digital reading of these smart water meters will provide residents with analytics that will alert them and our team to any significant spikes in usage,” Cr Rebecca Vonhoff said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith this data, we\u2019ll be able to identify prospective leaks which will help us save valuable water.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom the initial trial of almost 2000 smart meters, it was identified there was about 12 per cent water loss in the network.<\/p>\n

“These new smart meters will help us to improve our system so we can reduce this loss.”<\/p>\n

Cr Vonhoff said residents would be able to download an app to monitor their usage.<\/p>\n
