Some Kingaroy households and businesses may soon get the opportunity to choose faster broadband thanks to a rollout by NBN of more fibre to the premises connections.<\/p>\n
On Monday, NBN and the Federal Government released a list of suburbs and towns where more locations will be eligible to order a “wholesale speed Tier 1” connection.<\/p>\n
Eligible locations are listed in all States and Territories\u00a0but in the South Burnett, only Kingaroy gets a mention.<\/p>\n
The upgrade to a faster plan must be ordered via a participating internet provider.<\/p>\n
South Burnett Mayor Brett Otto welcomed the announcement but expressed disappointment that other South Burnett towns had missed out.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cThis is desperately needed to support our local businesses and our increasing population in Kingaroy. People living in Kingaroy deserve the same services afforded to their city cousins,\u201d Mayor Otto said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are experiencing population and business growth in all of (our) towns.<\/p>\n “If the government wants people to live and work in regional centres then they need to step up and invest in services.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cWhy should people in small towns be disadvantaged simply because of their location?<\/p>\n “These centres do much of the heavy lifting in the Australian economy. It’s only fair that governments support our growing rural communities.<\/p>\n \u201cI will be writing to our local Federal members of Parliament in coming days to make this point and asking them to raise the issue in Canberra.”<\/p>\n
