Ex-Murgon pharmacist Curtis Shea Mickan, 36, has been sentenced to seven years’ jail after admitting to a chain of violent events which culminated in him burning down his family’s Brisbane home in May 2021.<\/p>\n

Mickan – who has been in custody since his arrest – will be eligible for parole in September.<\/p>\n

He was sentenced by Chief Judge Brian Devereaux SC in the Brisbane District Court on Thursday after pleading guilty to a string of offences, including arson, assault occasioning bodily harm, choking, common assault and wilful damage.<\/p>\n

Mickan was originally charged with two counts of attempted murder but these were withdrawn last June.<\/p>\n

The court was told Mickan came home drunk after a football match and began attacking his wife.<\/strong><\/p>\n

She called the police and Mickan was taken away but later released without charge.<\/p>\n

Mickan later returned to the Wooloowin home, reversed his vehicle out from under the highset timber building, poured fuel over his wife\u2019s car, turned on two LPG bottles and lit a fire.<\/p>\n

His wife and mother-in-law were in the house at the time but managed to escape.<\/p>\n
