Tingoora Vikings had a lot to celebrate last Saturday … the fact they’re holding down the top spot on the local cricket ladder, a victory over Kingaroy Services Blue and the grand “re-opening” of their new cricket pitch.

The new concrete and synthetic pitch at the Tingoora Oval is the result of six months planning, fundraising and a lot of hard work by the members and friends of the Vikings.

The old pitch was ripped up last November and footings dug for the new pitch.

The big day started with a fun sponsors and supporters game, which also involved Mayor Brett Otto and several South Burnett councillors.

Mayor Otto then conducted the official opening at noon, while supporters enjoyed a sausage sizzle.

Out on the pitch, Vikings won the toss and batted first in their 40-over game against Kingaroy Blue.

A large crowd of family members gathered in marquees along the sidelines to cheer on the home team.

Vikings set a strong target, all out for 266 in the 38th over.

Top scorers were Keegan Wright (72) and captain Tavis Hartwig (70).

For Kingaroy, Josh Fearby took 4/48 off 7.5 overs, and Archie Koehler 3/34 off seven overs.

In reply, Kingaroy Blue were all out for 180 in the 35th over.

Openers Lachlan Watson (30) and Josh Fearby (29) got Blue off to a solid start.

Archie Koehler hit a quickfire 42 off 41 balls to be the top-scorer, including six 4s and one 6.

Michael Sanford (3/31 off six overs) and Benjamin Pratt (2/6 off one over) did the damage for Vikings.

Tingoora defeated Kingaroy Services Blue by 86 runs.

At the end of Round 9, Tingoora was leading the SBCA 40-Over competition ladder with 31 points, ahead of Murgon (28), Wooroolin Warriors (22), Nanango Purple (19), Wondai (18), Kingaroy Services Orange (16), Nanango Yellow (15) and Kingaroy Services Blue (13).

<a
