South Burnett Regional Council has issued a warning to residents after a fire in a garbage truck sparked a mini-emergency in Nanango late last month.<\/p>\n

Two fire crews were called at 9:20am on November 29 to George Street \/ Arthur Street East, Nanango, after a J.J. Richard’s driver reported a fire in his load.<\/p>\n

The driver was forced to dump the burning rubbish on to the side of the street.<\/p>\n

A Council spokesperson said the fire was started by a lithium battery inside a TV which had been dumped in a wheelie bin.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Lithium batteries can spontaneously ignite when overheated or damaged,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“This could have resulted in a more dangerous situation if the fire had not been detected early.<\/p>\n

“Residents are reminded that any items such as batteries should not be placed in the kerbside wheelie bins.”<\/p>\n

A QFES spokesperson said the fire was extinguished within five minutes after firefighters arrived.<\/p>\n
