Local charity Boots\u2019n Bulldust Inc has provided sunflower seed sachets to be handed out at South Burnett Regional Council customer service centres to help spread a message of support to people living with depression.<\/p>\n

“When you see a sunflower know that we care” is the motto of Seeds of Hope.<\/p>\n

A Council spokesperson said the aim was for people to plant the seeds now so that in the summer the flowers would remind people they are not alone, there is hope and other people are thinking about them.<\/p>\n

Research shows that the Christmas New Year period has the highest rate of suicide and violence in our community.<\/p>\n

Planting sunflowers in November to bloom over this period shows support of those at risk.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you have a sunflower in your garden, this shows that you are a person who can be approached to chat or help.<\/p>\n

Boots’n Bulldust founder, the late Sandy Towell, started the sunflower project to make people aware about asking for help or just checking in on people.<\/p>\n

Sunflowers were Sandy\u2019s favourite flower and are also part of the Boots’n Bulldust Reloved op shop’s logo in Pound Street, Kingaroy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
