A funeral service will be held in Kingaroy on Thursday for a former Officer-in-Charge at Kingaroy Police Station, Senior Sergeant John Bastable.<\/p>\n

John, 80, was well-known in the South Burnett area and served as OIC from 1989-1997.<\/p>\n

He died peacefully on November 17 after a long illness.<\/p>\n

John was also a former member of Kingaroy Rotary, serving on the executive, and was made a Paul Harris Fellow in 2017.<\/p>\n

He was born in the United Kingdom in 1942 and began his policing career with the London Met.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 1963, he married Jeanne Wilkins, from Buckinghamshire, and the couple moved to Australia soon afterwards.<\/p>\n

John joined the Queensland Police Force in 1966 and was posted at Woolloongabba station.<\/p>\n

Jeanne tragically died in May 2009.<\/p>\n

John then married Edna Poneles in 2012 and the couple continued to live in the Kingaroy district until shifting to Toowoomba when John became ill.<\/p>\n

His funeral will be held at Virgo\u2019s Funeral Home Chapel, 24 Pioneer Avenue, Kingaroy, from 11:00am on Thursday (November 24) to be followed by interment at Memerambi Cemetery.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Friends have then been invited to gather at Kingaroy RSL Club for drinks.<\/p>\n

John is survived by wife Edna, two children Catherine and Colin, four step-children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
