St Mary’s Catholic College Assistant Principal Alexandra Cashin is one of two Queensland teachers who have been awarded the Premier’s 2023 Anzac Prize.<\/p>\n

Alexandra will be heading off to Europe to help chaperone eight Queensland students who will be visiting Australia’s most important and historic war sites.<\/p>\n

The second chaperone will be Alison Marsh, from Marsden State High.<\/p>\n

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said this year\u2019s announcement was special.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will be the first (Anzac Prize) group to travel overseas since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020,” the Premier said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s wonderful to see the travel component return and for our students to visit sites in London, France and Belgium.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will allow the group to see and hear first-hand, the Anzac tradition and become ambassadors for the Anzac legacy when they return.”<\/p>\n

The group will be accompanied by\u00a0Assistant Minister for Veterans Bart Mellish.<\/p>\n

Education Minister Grace Grace said the winners were chosen from 40 high-quality applicants.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe students will be in Years 9-12 when they travel in April,\u201d Minister Grace said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis really is a life-changing experience.”<\/p>\n

The Anzac Prize began in 2013, and since then 128 students have been successful.<\/p>\n

The 2023 student winners are:\u00a0Anastasia Maher (Emerald State High),\u00a0Claire Gattera (St Monica\u2019s College, Cairns), Dashiell Solomon (Ambrose Treacy College, Indooroopilly),\u00a0Hilman Pranowo (Pimlico State High),\u00a0Nooria Ahmadi (Forest Lake High),\u00a0Sarah Ellis ( St Joseph\u2019s College, Toowoomba),\u00a0Thomas Eccleston (Ambrose Treacy College, Indooroopilly) and Tom Filipich (Pimlico State High).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
