{"id":326259,"date":"2022-11-11T19:12:12","date_gmt":"2022-11-11T09:12:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=326259"},"modified":"2022-11-11T19:12:12","modified_gmt":"2022-11-11T09:12:12","slug":"help-plan-to-boost-rural-doctors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2022\/11\/11\/help-plan-to-boost-rural-doctors\/","title":{"rendered":"HELP Plan To Boost Rural Doctors"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_326262\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-326262\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/jasonclare1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-326262 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/jasonclare1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-326262\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Education Minister Jason Clare<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>November 11, 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A doctor or nurse practitioner who lives and works in the most remote parts of Australia will have their HELP debt wiped under legislation introduced into Federal Parliament on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation introduces an incentive for doctors and nurses to live and work in the places that need them the most by wiping or reducing their HECs\/HELP debt.<\/p>\n<p>It means that a doctor or nurse practitioner who lives and works in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A remote or very remote town for a time period of half the length of their course would have their entire HELP debt wiped<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A large, medium or small rural town for a time period equal to the whole length of their course would have their entire HELP debt wiped<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>An eligible place for a period of time equivalent to half the time required is eligible to halve the applicable debt reduction<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Federal Government expects the legislation could attract about 850 doctors and nurse practitioners every year to rural and remote areas.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For nurse practitioners, the legislation will go towards covering a Master\u2019s Degree in Federal-supported study, a full fee-paying place, or a combination of both.<\/p>\n<p>Eligible locations are determined by the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.gov.au\/health-topics\/rural-health-workforce\/classifications\/mmm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Modified Monash Model<\/a><\/strong> which classifies remoteness.<\/p>\n<p>The measures are effective from January 1, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRural and remote Australia is experiencing skills shortages in many key professions.
