South Burnett Regional Council has issued a warning about “bitumen bandits” scamming local residents.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson said Council had become aware scammers have been operating in the region, falsely claiming they work with Council and offering bitumen laying services with “leftover” product.<\/p>\n

“Residents and businesses are advised that neither Council nor its contractors would approach anyone within the region with unsolicited services, and these false tradespeople have no affiliation with the South Burnett Regional Council,” a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“The vehicles of the scammers are reported to have interstate number plates, and the bitumen work is of poor to no standard.”<\/p>\n

The Council said it was aware some South Burnett locals had already been scammed.<\/p>\n

They said residents and businesses should be cautious with any contractors they engaged and not accept unsolicited services from anyone.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To help consumers, the Office of Fair Trading produces free “Do Not Knock” stickers that residents can place on their letterbox or front door.<\/p>\n

It is an offence for traders to approach a residence displaying one of these notices.<\/p>\n

Consumers can request a free “Do Not Knock” sticker from the Office of Fair Trading<\/b><\/a> or by calling 13-74-68.<\/p>\n

Information for traders on door-to-door rules and their obligations is also available on the Fair Trading website<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Residents can report suspicious activity by calling Police Link on 13-14-44 or lodge a complaint against a trader by calling 13-74-68.<\/p>\n
