Eleven students from Nanango State High School took a two-hour lunch break today, but no one minded.<\/p>\n

The Year 11 students are all studying for a Certificate II in Food and Beverages and were treating guests to a leisurely lunch at the Taabinga Room Restaurant at the Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE’s Kingaroy campus.<\/p>\n

Teacher Angela Marshall said the students did their theory work at school and practical studies at TAFE.<\/p>\n

Today’s exercise involved a practice bistro serving real customers who had paid to have lunch at the college’s training restaurant.<\/p>\n

The students served a three-course meal which had been prepared in the college’s kitchen.<\/p>\n

The students took orders, waited on tables, prepared mocktails, served drinks, made coffees and handled all the “front of house” duties of a regular restaurant.<\/p>\n

Teacher Michael Beohm was keeping a close eye on his charges as they buzzed around the tables.<\/p>\n

There are several more student events lined up … and the TAFE College is looking for guests who would like to enjoy being waited on by the young students.<\/p>\n
