Students, teachers, parents and friends gathered in the Maryknoll Centre at St Mary’s Catholic College recently for the school’s annual awards ceremony.<\/p>\n

In a break with tradition, the event was held during the day rather than at night.<\/p>\n

Principal Carmel O’Brien said it had been another “incredible year” for Saint Mary’s students.<\/strong><\/p>\n

She said the award morning was an opportunity to come together as a community to witness and celebrate the students and their efforts.<\/p>\n

“I thank all those who have supported us throughout the year, firstly and most importantly, our parents and carers, you are the first teachers of our students,” Mrs O’Brien said.<\/p>\n

“The relationship we form cannot be underestimated.<\/p>\n

“Academically, we have continued to excel for a small, growing rural school.<\/p>\n

“Our results continue to improve, impress and excel and we are particularly proud of the consistent and persistent efforts of our students who constantly strive for improvement in all aspects of their learning.<\/p>\n

“As we all know, success just does not \u2018happen\u2019. Every student has applied themselves and practiced their learning, so that they can be the best version of themselves and ‘realise their dignity’.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mrs O’Brien reminded the students that each one of them was “a miracle”.<\/p>\n

“There is no one else out there just like you. Start to view yourself and your world today as being miraculous and trust that you will create anything you set out to do,” she do.<\/p>\n

Special guests at the ceremony included Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington, South Burnett mayor Brett Otto, and Ms Balveen Ajimal, Mr Glenn McConville and Ms Georgina Kadel, from Brisbane Catholic Education.<\/p>\n

A new award presented for 2022 was the Jackson Langford Memorial Award For Biochemistry, named after a former student who died in December 2021.<\/p>\n

Long Service Awards were also presented to five staff members: Michelle Rutley (25 years), Bronwyn Langford Martoo (25 years), Leisa Walker (15 years), Carolyn Nelson (5 years) and Stephanie Adair (5 years).<\/p>\n
