Vets have renewed a plea to pet owners to protect their animals with tick treatments after warnings that tick anti-toxin serum supplies are running low.<\/p>\n

The serum is used in vet surgeries to save the lives of cats and dogs which are suffering from tick poisoning.<\/p>\n

A large national chain of vet surgeries has warned that the serum is out of stock nationally, with limited supplies left in vet hospitals and unlikely to be replenished for a fortnight.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy Veterinary Surgery’s Stephen Upton confirmed the current problem with ticks, saying he had been treating up to two or three pets a day recently for ticks.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After a recent rush of incidents, his surgery had restocked and had serum on hand but noted their main supplier had zero stock at present.<\/p>\n

Stephen again urged pet owners to use any of the many tick preventative treatments that are on the market.<\/p>\n

“It’s only going to get worse,” he warned.<\/p>\n

He also urged pet owners to be very aware of snake bites.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last weekend he treated seven animals which have suffered bites from black or brown snakes.<\/p>\n
