Toowoomba Regional Council is seeking immediate discussions with the State Government before making a decision on the proposed Toowoomba to Warwick Pipeline project.<\/p>\n

Mayor Paul Antonio said it was crucial to have a conversation with the Water Minister Glenn Burcher and senior government officials to remove any ambiguity from all sides of the table.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a massive decision for all of us which is why we\u2019ve called for an urgent meeting to be held,\u201d Mayor Antonio said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve already reached out to the Minister and am optimistic we can arrange a meeting as soon as possible on this matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile we know what our requirements are for the Toowoomba Region, the decision from Southern Downs Regional Council has made it clear we need to gain further understanding of their requirements for this proposed pipeline.”<\/p>\n

Southern Downs councillors voted on Wednesday in favour of providing in principle support for the pipeline project but added a number of conditions, including that it not be required to contribute to the costs of the pipeline or the water.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The SDRC also wants to have the sole right to determine when to request water via the pipeline.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re seeking to understand the intentions and implications of the details listed within the decision from Southern Downs,” Mayor Antonio said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a good relationship with our neighbouring council so it\u2019s about coming together to get clarity before we make a final decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no doubt there are positive opportunities for us from this proposed pipeline … however, there will be significant investment required so we need to get the best possible deal for our community.<\/p>\n

TRC has emphasised that<\/strong><\/p>\n
