{"id":325300,"date":"2022-10-24T19:56:39","date_gmt":"2022-10-24T09:56:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=325300"},"modified":"2022-10-28T22:55:02","modified_gmt":"2022-10-28T12:55:02","slug":"littleproud-slams-bbrf-axing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2022\/10\/24\/littleproud-slams-bbrf-axing\/","title":{"rendered":"Littleproud Slams BBRF Axing"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_292937\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-292937\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-292937\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/20210118-ktp01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/20210118-ktp01.jpg 740w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/20210118-ktp01-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/20210118-ktp01-269x167.jpg 269w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/20210118-ktp01-285x177.jpg 285w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/20210118-ktp01-340x211.jpg 340w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/20210118-ktp01-263x163.jpg 263w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-292937\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">FLASHBACK: South Burnett Mayor Brett Otto and Member for Maranoa David Littleproud were at the head of the queue at the Kingaroy Transformation Project&#8217;s official sod-turning ceremony in 2021 &#8230; the KTP was one of many local projects which received support from the Building Better Regions Fund<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>October 24, 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Member for Maranoa David Littleproud has slammed a Federal Government decision to axe Round 6 of the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF).<\/p>\n<p>The news, to be confirmed in this week&#8217;s Budget, was announced by Regional Development Minister Catherine King\u00a0on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Also scrapped has been the Community Development Grants (CDG) program.<\/p>\n<p>Nationals leader Mr Littleproud said the decisions were a devastating blow to regional and rural communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLabor needs to tell our hard-working regional and rural communities why it\u2019s putting its city mates before regional and rural Australia,\u201d Mr Littleproud said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But Minister King said the two programs were being replaced.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She said Tuesday&#8217;s Budget would include $1 billion in funding over three years for two new programs: the Growing Regions Program and the regional Precincts and Partnerships Program.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Growing Regions Program will provide new opportunities for regional local councils and not-for-profit organisations through an annual open, competitive grants process,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The regional Precincts and Partnerships Program will provide a strategic, nationally consistent mechanism for funding and co-ordinating larger-scale projects that transform a place, to benefit communities in regional cities and wider rural and regional Australia.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Minister King said the Australian National Audit Office had found that BBRF grants favoured National Party electorates and were not awarded on the basis of merit.<\/p>\n<p>But Mr Littleproud said it was hypocritical of Labor to accuse the Nationals of pork-barrelling &#8220;when we already know this Budget is all about helping the re-election campaign of (the) Victorian Premier&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s hardly startling that most of the money for a regional program went to Nationals-held seats. It\u2019s a regional fund and we are the party that represents regional Australia,&#8221; he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ms King said contracted projects under the CDG program would be honoured.<\/p>\n<p>A further 82 projects that date back to 2016 and that are yet to be contracted will have six months to finalise negotiations before the program ends.<\/p>\n<p>South Burnett projects previously supported by the Building Better Regions Fund include\u00a0the Kingaroy Transformation Project, Murgon&#8217;s fossil museum and cultural centre, the development of a South Burnett Agriculture Strategy, disability-friendly aged care units in Blackbutt, support for the Red Earth Community Foundation for workshops and to produce a Burnett Inland Futures Strategy, new toilets and showers at Goomeri Showgrounds, the Yarraman Finish Line Festival, upgrades at the Wondai Art Gallery, BaconFest and the Kilkivan Great Horse Ride.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Member for Maranoa David Littleproud has slammed a Federal Government decision to axe Round 6 of the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":292937,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[22,16,3,36],"tags":[1131,1134],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
