The South Burnett Thrashers aren’t taking it easy despite the rugby union season being officially over.<\/p>\n

At the weekend, the boys headed down south to take part in the Byron Bay 7s carnival.<\/p>\n

This was an opportunity for the Thrashers to test their mettle against some of the best sevens teams in Australia.<\/p>\n

Club president Jamie Shirlaw said the team was in the Social division, but even so, the standard of play was very high.<\/p>\n

Rugby players from across Australia were keen to take part as it was the first Byron Bays 7s in three years due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n

“We won two of our three pool matches on the Saturday making it through to the finals on the Sunday,” Jamie said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The South Burnett team defeated the Killer Whales 24-5, and then defeated East Canberra 22-10.<\/p>\n

Sadly, the third game, against 6PBC didn’t go South Burnett’s way, 34-0.<\/p>\n

“We were knocked out in the quarter-final by Palm Beach Currumbin Alleygators 41-12 who went on to win the Social division in the grand final,” Jamie said.<\/p>\n

“The Thrashers would like to thank Metka EGN and Mytilineos for sponsoring the team.”<\/p>\n

The club now plans to send teams to more sevens carnivals during the off-season, including those at the Fraser Coast and Roma.<\/p>\n

Coach Mike Bishop said the players were looking to forward to the upcoming competitions.<\/p>\n
