{"id":324735,"date":"2022-10-10T20:25:03","date_gmt":"2022-10-10T10:25:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=324735"},"modified":"2022-10-11T20:29:20","modified_gmt":"2022-10-11T10:29:20","slug":"john-snaps-up-3000-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2022\/10\/10\/john-snaps-up-3000-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"John Snaps Up $3000 Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_324756\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-324756\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/20221007wondai1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-324756 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/20221007wondai1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/20221007wondai1.jpg 740w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/20221007wondai1-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/20221007wondai1-269x167.jpg 269w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/20221007wondai1-285x177.jpg 285w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/20221007wondai1-340x211.jpg 340w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/20221007wondai1-263x163.jpg 263w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-324756\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Coolabunia photographer John Dalton with his winning portrait &#8220;Dark Eyes&#8221;\u00a0 and his second-placed &#8220;Kingfishers&#8221; &#8230; it is the second year in a row that John has taken out the $3000 South Burnett Acquisitive Art Prize<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>October 10, 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Local photographer John Dalton has scooped the pool again at the Wondai Regional Art Gallery&#8217;s annual South Burnett Acquisitive competition.<\/p>\n<p>John&#8217;s portrait of an Indigenous man, &#8220;Dark Eyes&#8221; &#8211; taken at the Wakka Wakka Native Title hearing at Cherbourg in April &#8211; won the $3000 main prize and will now be added to the South Burnett Regional Council&#8217;s permanent art collection.<\/p>\n<p>He entered the photograph in the &#8220;Australian Poetry&#8221; category of the competition, and accompanied it with a poem he composed, &#8220;Dark Eyes, Dark History&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Another photograph by John, &#8220;Kingfishers&#8221;, won the $200 second place in the Photography category.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, John won the top prize for his photograph of another Indigenous man, \u201cBlack Anzac\u201d, the People\u2019s Choice prize and a second prize.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The 2022 competition was judged by Gympie-based artist Prue McLeod, who congratulated the gallery and its volunteers for their efforts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She said she judged the works on their creativity, originality, the unity of the piece and the artists&#8217; use of their chosen medium with skill, confidence and flair.<\/p>\n<p>Gallery co-ordinator Elaine Madill OAM said it was the 14th year\u00a0 the South Burnett Regional Council had sponsored the Acquisitive Art competition.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is our big one for the year and it is quite a job,&#8221; Elaine told the large crowd at the opening night on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On Monday morning, these walls were bare. By Tuesday, it was all up; by Wednesday, it was judged and by Thursday, I was writing out the cheques!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The prizes were sponsored by Council, local businesses and the Gallery
