Murgon’s Nathan Roderick has had a busy start to the 2022-23 cricket season, turning out for the Murgon Crusaders in the Gympie A Grade competition, for Wide Bay in the Lord Taverners series and for the Coastal Marlins in the Brisbane Premier League<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

September 23, 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n

There will be eight teams taking part in the South Burnett senior cricket competition this year, with the first balls due to bowled on Saturday, October 8.<\/p>\n

The eight teams are: Murgon, Tingoora Vikings, Wooroolin Warriors, Wondai, Nanango Purple, Nanango Yellow, Kingaroy Services Blue and Kingaroy Services Orange.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, Cherbourg won’t be fielding a team this year but some former Cherbourg players may turn out with other clubs.<\/p>\n

Junior cricket is also expected to get under way on the same day, with a muster from 8:00am at the Alan Downie Sports Fields in Nanango (final details to be confirmed).<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Murgon Crusaders and Wooroolin Warriors are fielding teams again this year in the Gympie A Grade competition.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Round 1 was played last Saturday.<\/p>\n

Gympie Colts (8\/190) defeated Murgon (all out 169) by 21 runs at Jack Ison Oval in Gympie.<\/p>\n

Nathan Roderick top-scored for Crusaders with 81 runs, including 12 fours and one six.\u00a0 He also took 1\/16 off seven overs.<\/p>\n

Brenton Polzin finished with Murgon’s best bowling figures, 3\/27 including one maiden.<\/p>\n

Wooroolin Warriors (all out 154) were defeated by Gympie Harlequins (4\/155) at Keith Manthey Oval in Gympie.<\/p>\n

Tyler Heness had a top day, finishing with the best batting and bowling figures for Wooroolin, ie. 41 not out and 1\/10 off five overs.<\/p>\n

This weekend, Crusaders will face Gympie Royals and Warriors will take on Gympie Valleys,\u00a0 both games to be played in Gympie.<\/p>\n

South Burnett players have turned out for Wide Bay in two rounds of the 50-over Lord Taverners Competition.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Round 1 (September 11), Sunshine Coast (9\/180) defeated Wide Bay (all out 133).<\/p>\n

Wide Bay captain Nathan Roderick hit 43 runs off 56 balls, including seven boundaries, to top score for the team.<\/p>\n

In Round 2 (September 18), Wests (9\/225) defeated Wide Bay (all out 155).<\/p>\n

Isaac Lutz was Wide Bay’s top scorer with 48 runs. Roderick took 1\/26 off seven overs.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Junior cricketers have been kept busy with representative games.<\/strong><\/p>\n

South Burnett had the opportunity to enter an Under 15 boys team in the South East Youth Cup which involved eight teams from the Brisbane region, Gold Coast, Ipswich and Toowoomba.<\/p>\n

They won one match against Toowoomba, suffered a close loss to Ipswich and were defeated by North Brisbane and Redlands.<\/p>\n

The final match of their campaign will be at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy on Sunday, October 2.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Several South Burnett girls were selected for the Wide Bay Under 15 side, coached by Nanango’s Brett Burrows.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Their carnival was played across two weekends in September.<\/p>\n

Players from this carnival are expected to be selected for the Under 15s Coastal Burners side, which is a joint Sunshine Coast \/ Wide Bay team which will take part in the Under 15s State Carnival.<\/p>\n

Local junior cricketers also took part in the Brisbane Premier League T20 competitions for Under 12 to Under 18 age groups played during the September school holidays.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Murgon’s Harry Sippel was part of the Darling Dingoes Under 18s side, hitting 157 runs off 62 balls in one of his matches to record the tournament’s highest score.<\/p>\n

He also hit 19 sixes during the competition.<\/p>\n

In the Under 17s, Murgon’s Nathan Roderick played with the Coastal Marlins, while Nanango’s Joseph Steinhardt was in the Darling Dingoes.<\/p>\n
