A weekend which included guided walking tours around the Bunya Mountains, historical displays, visits to rarely seen sites and an old-fashioned bush picnic has proven to be a winner for the Bunya Mountains Community Association Inc (BMCAI).<\/p>\n

More than 75 people took part in their inaugural “Bunya Mountains Walks Back In Time” weekend on Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n

The event offered participants a smorgasbord of activities to choose from, allowing visitors to craft their own itinerary.<\/p>\n

As part of the weekend, several Bunya Mountains properties opened their gates to allow visitors access to\u00a0 historically significant sites that are normally off-limits to the public.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Bunya Mountains Natural History Association also opened the doors of their museum to explain more about the area’s past.<\/p>\n

In one of the quirkier events on offer, three former students of the Mowbullan Provisional School took part in a re-enactment of a normal school day in the 1940s, which included a typical lesson of the era delivered by school teacher Aileen Fleming (who came equipped with a cane in hand!).<\/p>\n

Younger children in the audience also joined in the fun.<\/p>\n

BMCAI secretary Carol Weekes said the event would not have been possible without the generosity of local property owners, a grant from the Coopers Gap Wind Farm to hire a bus, and a grant from Heritage Nanango Community Branch to acquire marquees.<\/p>\n

BMCAI’s next big event will be its annual Dinner Under The Stars, which will be held at Dandabah on November 19 as a fundraiser for the group.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Guests at this $95-per-person evening will enjoy a three-course meal prepared by celebrity chef Matt Golinski, music by Ryza, a talk on Indigenous astronomy by Uncle Wayne Fossey and Donna Glass, and live and silent auctions.<\/p>\n
