The State Government’s proposal to extend National Park access to beekeepers until 2044 has been supported by local MP Deb Frecklington, but she has questioned why a deadline is needed at all.<\/p>\n

Beekeepers have been fighting to overturn laws which would have seen their hives kicked out of National Parks by 2024.<\/p>\n

The State Government is now proposing an extension to 2044.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said she had been proud to speak in Parliament in support of local beekeepers to highlight how important it was for them to have continued access.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe next generation of beekeepers needs certainty,” Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis Labor Government wants to impose another 20-year sentence to 2044. While I support the extension, I question why we need another deadline.”<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington said Queensland would be the only State with a sunset clause.<\/p>\n

“Ultimately, this can only lead to people walking away from the industry, or choosing to expand into NSW or Victoria where there is increased certainty for their business,” she said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to thank the Queensland Beekeepers Association, and local beekeeper Brad Jensen, who have been keeping me updated on this issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe South Burnett is home to many commercial beekeepers and they need our support.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause without bees, we simply would not have much of the food we need and love, not to mention the amazing honey they produce.”<\/p>\n
