The Wondai Regional Art Gallery is hosting two high quality exhibitions in September, and neither has been seen in the region before.<\/p>\n

This month the main and rear galleries feature brand new textile art creations from Marion Lees, Jan Scudamore and Barbara Jenkins.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the front gallery has a solo exhibition of landscapes and seascapes executed in a variety of media by Lesley French (“Water Ways”), and works by children from Moffatdale State School are featured in Kidz Korner.<\/p>\n

At the exhibition’s official opening last Friday night, Barbara Jenkins said preparing the joint exhibition with fellow textile artists Marion and Jan had been more stressful than she’d initially expected.<\/strong><\/p>\n

She said knowledge that the trio had to come up with enough new, quality works to fill two of the gallery’s spaces became an increasingly heavy burden as the deadline loomed – but now that it was done, she felt greatly relieved.<\/p>\n

2022 has been a busy year for the trio.<\/p>\n

All three are members of the Kingaroy-based Tangled Threads textile art group, which mounted a combined exhibition at the Wondai Gallery in March this year, along with a smaller exhibition of different works the same month to celebrate the opening of the South Burnett Woodcrafters new workshop in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

A few months later in July, the group staged their annual exhibition at the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery – once again, a collection of new works which drew wide critical acclaim – and last month Tangled Threads member Jane Walduck had a smaller exhibition of her own works at Wondai.<\/p>\n

In a similar vein, the works on show this month are all new creations that range from wall hangings to quilts, and decorative pieces to centrepieces.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In her opening night address, Gallery curator Elaine Madill praised the artists for producing a uniquely beautiful exhibition, and the Gallery’s hanging team for carrying out the difficult job of displaying the pieces to best effect.<\/p>\n

The Gallery’s volunteers also received a round of applause for consistently delivering a great supper on opening nights.<\/p>\n
