They did it! The South Burnett Eagles Women’s Open team have brought home the trophy for the 2022 Wide Bay Female premiership!<\/p>\n

The senior women’s team, which finished the regular season as minor premiers, took on the Fraser Coast Crushers at Salter Oval in Bundaberg on Saturday.<\/p>\n

It was a tough game with neither side managing to get over the line for more than 15 minutes.<\/p>\n

Eagles’ Traevonnah Fisher eventually broke the deadlock with a try, which she then converted.<\/p>\n

Fraser Coast hit back, but then Elyse Williams scored to give South Burnett a half-time lead, 10-4.<\/p>\n

Early in the second half, the Crushers crossed again and converted to tie the scores at 10-all.<\/p>\n

The armwrestle continued for much of the rest of the half until a Fraser Coast mistake just five minutes from full-time gave the Eagles a penalty shot in front of the posts.<\/p>\n

Fisher nailed the kick, giving the South Burnett Eagles a hard-fought but well-deserved victory.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett Eagles U14s and Under 17s women’s teams had a tougher run to earn a spot in their WBF Grand Finals.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Both had to battle their way through elimination finals to get to the big day.<\/p>\n

In Under 17s, minor premiers Bundaberg 30 defeated South Burnett Eagles 14 after the scores were locked at 10-all at half-time.<\/p>\n

The Eagles, who only had 13 team members take to the field, put on a brave display but were down to just 11 players when the full-time siren sounded.<\/p>\n

In Under 14s, Tannum Sands Seagulls 20 defeated the South Burnett Eagles 12 in a very tough game, where the Eagles were again unfortunately affected by injuries.<\/p>\n

Two A Grade South Burnett games were played at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the first, Nanango 38 defeated Murgon 32 after leading 22-20 at half-time.<\/p>\n

Nanango tries were scored by Matt Mladenovic (2), Robert Ryan, Ashley Smallwood, Jack Mines, Joseph Smith and Patrick Gentry.<\/p>\n

Jakeb Mead kicked four goals and Blake Harvey kicked one.<\/p>\n

Murgon try scorers were Arthur Saltner (2), Glen Fisher, Karl Berlin, Jake Kennedy and Daron Saltner-Bligh.\u00a0Saltner-Bligh kicked four goals.<\/p>\n

In the second A Grade game, Kingaroy 36 defeated Wondai 28.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kingaroy tries were scored by Toby Schmidt (2), Killian Klease (2), Mason Trappe and Harry Sterling. Sterling kicked six from six.<\/p>\n

For Wondai, tries were scored by Luke Hedges (3), Keith Gadd Jnr and Peter Langton.<\/p>\n

Alex Georgetown kicked three goals and Daniel Alberts kicked one.<\/p>\n

In A Grade, Nanango is on top of the ladder with 22 points, ahead of Murgon 21, Kingaroy 14, Wondai 13 and Cherbourg 12.<\/em><\/p>\n

  • Nanango 8 def. Cherbourg 6 at Kingaroy<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Ryan Wallace scored Nanango’s two tries. For Cherbourg, Joseph Fisher-Jacobs scored a try which was converted by Shontayne Cobbo.<\/p>\n

    • Kingaroy drew with Murgon 22-all at Kingaroy<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Kingaroy try-scorers were Braydon Watcho-Page (3) and Ethan Saal. Lawson Braithwaite kicked three goals.<\/p>\n

      For Murgon, tries were scored by Jacob Wratten (2), Zac Harris, and Rubin Alberts. Harris kicked two goals and Wratten kicked one.
      \nAt the end of Round 14, Murgon led the Under 14s ladder with 25 points, followed by Nanango 19, Kingaroy 15, Chinchilla 14 and Cherbourg 11.<\/em><\/p>\n
