Three specialty cattle sales held in the South Burnett last week for Charolais and Limousins produced strong returns for sellers, despite a wetter-than-usual year affecting much of the region.<\/p>\n

The three top bulls in the sales fetched prices between $27,000 and $29,000, with many others selling in the $11,000 to $12,000 range.<\/p>\n

The first sale – 10th Annual Coolabunia Classic Charolais Bull Sale – was held at Coolabunia’s Saleyards last Thursday.<\/p>\n

Sixty-one bulls from four studs were put up for auction.<\/p>\n

The top selling bull – Charnelle Skipper (790kg, 20 months old) – sold for $29,000.<\/p>\n

Other bulls sold for an average of $11,032 each.<\/p>\n

The auction attracted 65 bidders from local areas and some from as far away as southern NSW, with many more watching and bidding online through Elite Livestock Auctions.<\/p>\n

The sale was conducted by Aussie Land and Livestock, with Midge Thompson and Corey Evans sharing auctioneer duties.<\/p>\n

The following day, Aussie Land and Livestock and Bartholomew and Company jointly conducted the 2022 BJF Invitational Bull and Female Sale on the BJF Limousin Farm near Yarraman.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This sale also drew a large crowd of bidders from all over south-east Queensland, and online on Auctions Plus.<\/p>\n

The top selling bull – O\u2019Sullivan\u2019s Radium (23 months old, 912kg) – sold for $27,000.<\/p>\n

This bull was selected as Grand Champion Limousin Bull at this year\u2019s Ekka.<\/p>\n

The remaining 47 bulls on offer sold for an average $11,894, and 12 of 24 females sold to an average of $6092.<\/p>\n

Two cows sold to an average of $5000; a cow and calf unit sold for $9000; and nine heifers averaged $4277 per head.<\/p>\n

Vendors also enjoyed an outstanding day at the annual Coolabunia Limousin bull sale on Saturday (August 13).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thirty-six Limousin Bulls sold to an average $13,000 and topped at $28,000 for Lot 15, Jen-Daview Sargent (18 months old, 760kg), from Jen-Daview Limousins in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

Jen-Daview offered and sold 12 bulls to average $15,583; highlights included:<\/p>\n

  • Sargent S8 selling for $28,000 to Charles and Carmel McKinlay at Emerald<\/li>\n
  • Ronaldo R14 selling for $20,000 to Chris Bourke, Wanders Limousins at Sandy Camp<\/li>\n
  • Rambo R39 selling for $20,000 to Warrigal farms at Beerwah<\/li>\n
  • Rapid R20 selling for $17,000 to Shakriba Partnership at Glen Innes<\/li>\n
  • Sonny S6 selling for $16,000 to Springdale Land and Cattle at Springdale<\/li>\n
  • Riddler R24 selling for $16,000 to Stenzel Farming at Warrill View<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
