The latest techniques in agrifood systems will be the focus of a free information session to be held in Murgon on September 8.<\/p>\n

The director of QUT’s Centre for Agriculture and the Bioeconomy, Prof Sagadevan Mundree, leads a research team that is focused on making crops more resilient to environmental stresses, such as drought and salinity, as well as more nutritious.<\/p>\n

Prior to joining QUT, Prof Mundree was a senior executive in the Department of Primary Industries where he led a team responsible for investments in research, development and extension.<\/p>\n

The morning talk in Murgon is being hosted by Murgon State High School.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Principal Simon Cotton said the public was invited to come along to the free talk, but numbers were limited so RSVPs would be required.<\/p>\n

Attendees cam learn about the latest advancements in sustainable agroecosystems, industrial and synthetic biotechnology, agrifood systems, bioprocessing and plant genomics.<\/p>\n

Mr Cotton said one of the technologies that would be showcased was vertical vegetable gardens, which Murgon SHS is considering installing.<\/p>\n

The school was also looking at the possibility of introducing Certificate II or III courses in horticulture in the future.<\/p>\n
