A superstar from the world of children’s books dropped in to Saint Mary’s Catholic College on Wednesday to share some tips about … drawing dragons!<\/p>\n

Melbourne-based Marc McBride is the illustrator for the best-selling Deltora Quest series of children’s books, which have sold millions of copies around the world and been published in more than 30 countries.<\/p>\n

The books are written by Australian author Emily Rodda (real name Jennifer Rowe) who has won the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book of the Year for Younger Readers Award a record six times.<\/p>\n

Their latest collaboration is “The Glimme” which was shortlisted for the CBCA’s Book of the Year Award and the Aurealis Best Children’s Fiction award.<\/p>\n

Marc has illustrated more than 200 book covers, 10 picture books and countless magazines during his career.\u00a0He has also designed stamps, restaurant murals and worked as a set designer for TV commercials.<\/p>\n

St Mary’s students from Years 5-9 enjoyed a series of workshops with Marc who took them through the process of creating an artwork.<\/strong><\/p>\n

His speciality is “fantasy” so the artworks he produced on Wednesday mainly featured dragons.<\/p>\n

Marc explained where he gets his inspiration, how he works with colours and perspective, and how to use shapes and texture.<\/p>\n

The students were then encouraged to produce their own drawings using the ideas that had been discussed.<\/p>\n

Marc will also be visiting Taabinga State School during his visit to the South Burnett.<\/p>\n
