South Burnett Regional Council has won the Schools Program award at the national Australian Road Safety Foundation Awards.<\/p>\n

Award winners were announced at Parliament House in Canberra earlier this week.<\/p>\n

Council\u2019s nomination was for school safety projects undertaken at Kingaroy State High School, Nanango State School, St Mary\u2019s Catholic College, Taabinga State School and Wondai P-9.<\/p>\n

Mayor Brett Otto welcomed the announcement on behalf of Council and staff.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“This is a prestigious award,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Out of all the schools across Australia, the South Burnett Regional Council has excelled in putting safety first for students, families, school staff, and road users.”<\/p>\n

The award was given for works undertaken on school crossings, bus set down bays, car parking, pedestrian crossings, disability parking bays, footpaths, pram ramps, line marking and the removal of trees or other visual obstructions.<\/p>\n

Mayor Otto said the award was national recognition of work undertaken by the Council to deliver quality results.<\/p>\n

“Council would also like to acknowledge the schools\u2019 contribution towards these outcomes,” Mayor Otto said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said their insights into problems at or near the schools had been very helpful and directly contributed to the result.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
