One of the South Burnett’s largest employers faces a charge of breaching workplace health and safety legislation.<\/p>\n

Swickers Kingaroy Bacon Factory Pty Ltd has been listed for mention in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The company faces one charge of failing to comply with health and safety duty (Category 2).<\/p>\n

A spokesperson from the Office of the Work Health and Safety Prosecutor (OWHSP) told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> the filed complaint and summons alleged the defendant company, in 2021, failed to manage the risk posed to workers by the use of an acidic cleaning product at its abattoir.<\/p>\n

“It is alleged that workers were exposed to a risk of sustaining serious chemical burns,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“Given that the matter remains before the Court, the OWHSP does not propose to provide any further details of the allegations at this time.”<\/p>\n

The OWHSP is an independent prosecution office, established by State Parliament, to conduct proceedings for breaches of Queensland\u2019s workplace health and safety, resources safety and health laws.<\/p>\n
