The Kingaroy Transformation Project has been selected as one of this year’s best Queensland landscape design projects by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (Artwork: SBRC)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Kingaroy Transformation Project (KTP) being built by the South Burnett Regional Council has been nominated for a Landscape Architecture Award.<\/p>\n

The awards program is run each year by Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) to promote the achievements of Australian landscape architects.<\/p>\n

It aims to demonstrate to industry, business, government and the wider community the positive impact the profession has on Australian lives through the planning and design of the built and natural environments.<\/p>\n

This year, the KTP was nominated in the Landscape Architecture Award by Greenedge Design, Wild Studio and Rixon Design, three of firms involved in its planning.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The Kingaroy Transformation Project is a major overhaul of the Kingaroy CBD streetscape, and the redevelopment of the streetscape is a full reconstruction from shopfront to shopfront embracing infrastructure renewal and modernisation, improved human and social benefits, economic regeneration and an improved identity for the South Burnett’s major centre,” the nominees told the judging panel.<\/p>\n

“The urban design strategy captures improved pedestrian spaces with wider footpaths, more street tree planting, outdoor dining and public covered seating areas together with the creation of a community shared area which can be closed off for events.”<\/p>\n

AILA has ranked the KTP alongside 46 other prestige urban development projects across the State.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The SBRC had originally hoped the KTP would be finished by June this year but pandemic restrictions, supply chain issues and multiple wet weather events have slowed construction efforts during the past year.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the SBRC said the project was now expected to finish most of civil works in late September and early October, and achieve full completion in November.<\/p>\n
