The South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group moved its readiness status to “Stand Up” on Friday morning in response to locally heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours.<\/p>\n

Falls between 50mm and 110mm have been reported in and around Nanango and Kingaroy, and north-west through to Proston.<\/p>\n

Queensland Police Service and Queensland Fire and Rescue responded to a number of swift water incidents and currently the Twin Gums Caravan Park has been successfully evacuated.<\/p>\n

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast further rain of 20mm to 40mm over the next three to six hours which will likely lead to further road closures and road damage.<\/p>\n

A South Burnett Regional Council spokesperson said council crews were currently working on the network.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The community has been asked to be patient with road repairs and re-openings over the coming days. Some areas of the network are likely to be re-damaged given this is now the region\u2019s fifth weather event in the past eight months.<\/p>\n

“Should you be required to evacuate, we recommend, in the first instance, you attend to family or friends,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“If you are unable to evacuate to family or friends, Council has opened an evacuation centre at Nanango Cultural Centre should you need a safe place.<\/p>\n

“Please ensure if you do evacuate to a safer location, you keep your families notified.”<\/p>\n
