South Burnett Regional Council will submit 35 road improvement projects to the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) in the hope of securing “betterment” funding for some or all of them.<\/p>\n

The roads were smashed in four separate floods that struck the South Burnett between November and May.<\/p>\n

While the Council estimates that as many as 1000 of the region’s roads will need post-flood repairs, the 35 projects it will submit to the QRA are among the worst-affected.<\/p>\n

They are also the most capable of being improved so they do not suffer the same level of damage in future floods.<\/p>\n

At this month’s Infrastructure Standing Committee meeting, officers presented a list of 32 roads that will be submitted to a $150 million Roads and Transport Betterment Projects fund for consideration.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Three of these roads require work in two separate locations, making 35 projects in all.<\/p>\n

If accepted, officers expect the QRA will contribute 90 per cent of the costs for each approved project, with Council contributing the remaining 10 per cent.<\/p>\n

Most of the roads nominated by Council officers are rural roads which have suffered severe washouts.<\/p>\n

But four urban roads that have had major pavement failures are also included, along with a small section of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail at risk of being eroded by a nearby creek.<\/p>\n

The nominated projects are:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n5. Manumbar Road, Murgon
\n6. Manumbar Road, Sandy Ridges
\n7. Maidenwell-Upper Yarraman Road, Maidenwell
\n8. Gooyong Street, Kingaroy
\n9. Mt McEuen Road, Mt McEuen
\n10. Arthur Street East, Nanango
\n11. Rail Trail, Benarkin
\n12. Greenview Road and Dingo Creek car park, Wondai
\n13. Flagstone Creek Road, Haly Creek
\n14. Hodges Road, Kingaroy
\n15. Belle Street, Kingaroy
\n16. Lamperds Road, Memerambi
\n17. Recreation Drive, Memerambi
\n18. Kings Bridge Road, Wyalla\/Sandy Ridges (two sections)

\n20. Mondure Crossing Road, Glan Devon
\n21. Jerrards Road, Boondooma
\n22. Mercer Springate Road, East Nanango

The list will be presented again for final approval at Wednesday’s General Meeting, where it is expected to be passed unanimously.<\/p>\n
