South Burnett Regional Youth Council members hosted the Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s July meet’n’greet on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

The get-together, in the Kingaroy Town Hall Reception Room, attracted more than 60 local business people.<\/p>\n

It was an opportunity for the Youth Council members to meet some of the local “movers and shakers” and update them on what they hope to achieve during their term working alongside Council.<\/p>\n

KCCI president Damien Martoo said the young people were the region’s future: “You need to mould us so your future will be even better.”<\/p>\n

The Youth Council’s first major project is organising a “battle of the bands”-type event for BaconFest, which has been dubbed “Pig Jam”.<\/p>\n

Musicians and singers aged between 12-25 have been urged to register online<\/a><\/strong> to take part.<\/p>\n

Other aims discussed by the Youth Councillors include raising awareness about Indigenous, LGBTIQA+ and mental health issues.<\/p>\n

The meet’n’greet also heard from Stanwell General Manager (Southern Generation) Michael Joy who reminded the audience that Stanwell’s 2023 apprenticeship and trainee program was now open.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said the electricity market had changed dramatically over the past six months.<\/p>\n

The coal-fired power stations at Tarong had “picked up the slack” and were now running hard to ensure energy security.<\/p>\n

He said the next planned maintenance shutdown would occur in September, and two have been scheduled for next year (in April and September).<\/p>\n

Mr Martoo thanked Stanwell for the Tarong Community Partnership Fund’s $41,000 support for the KCCI Business Hub project in Kingaroy Street.\u00a0 He also thanked the South Burnett Regional Council for their support in shoring up the structure of the building, removing asbestos and installing disability access toilets.<\/p>\n

Another guest speaker was SBRC CEO Mark Pitt, who was wearing his Rotary “hat”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He advised the meeting that Kingaroy Rotary was setting up a “Sunrise” club which will meet at the KCCI Hub twice a month for breakfast.<\/p>\n

The new club will be chartered at a dinner at Kingaroy Town Hall on July 30.<\/p>\n

Their first goal will be to provide a suitcase to every child who is in the foster system locally.<\/p>\n

The KCCI is urging Kingaroy CBD businesses to take part in the BaconFest window competition<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

South Burnett CTC will be hosting the next KCCI meet’n’greet on September 6.<\/strong><\/p>\n

CTC’s Housing and Homelessness Forum<\/a><\/strong> is on July 22 but people who cannot attend have been urged to fill in a short online survey<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
