More than 7300 speeding offences were detected in the North Coast Police Region in April<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

More than 7300 speeding offences and 357 drink drivers were detected in the North Coast Police Region – which includes the South Burnett – during April.<\/p>\n

There were 61,967 random breath tests conducted.<\/p>\n

Police Minister Jack Dempsey said today Queensland Police had booked more than 95,000 motorists throughout Queensland during April.<\/p>\n

\u201cThroughout April the QPS also ran an additional operation, Operation Q Blitz 2, focusing on road safety which netted almost 20,000 traffic offences,\u201d Mr Dempsey said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is simply not acceptable for drivers put their own lives and the lives of others at risk on the road by breaking the road rules.<\/p>\n

\u201cI urge all drivers to take care on the road at all times by sticking to the speed limit, wearing a seat belt, not drink driving, not driving tired and not driving distracted. Nothing is worth endangering the lives of our loved ones and other road users.\u201d<\/p>\n

Commissioner Ian Stewart said during April police detected almost 70,000 speeding drivers, more than 2000 drink and drug drivers and almost 2000 drivers being distracted by their mobile phone.<\/p>\n

\u201cCompared with the same period last year, we\u2019ve seen an increase of 17,360 speeding offences, 334 seatbelt offences, 189 mobile phone offences, 126 drink drivers, 28 drug drivers and 2678 more traffic infringement notices for other offences,” he said.<\/p>\n

Commissioner Stewart said if road fatalities continued at the same rate as the first four months, Queensland could surpass 300 deaths by the end of the year.<\/p>\n
