June 30, 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under 8s Day was a real blast for families in Kingaroy’s Memorial Park on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

There was an “exploding” kitchen fire (see below), fire hoses, sirens, police vehicles and even two police horses!<\/p>\n

The day was organised by South Burnett Partnerships For Kids with support from the South Burnett Regional Council.<\/p>\n

While the children had fun exploring all the emergency services vehicles or playing games, adults could browse one of the 30 stalls spread around the park.<\/p>\n

Peta Clarkson, from South Burnett Partnerships For Kids, said everything was free and everyone taking part was a volunteer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We are trying to let the community know what is out there,” she said.<\/p>\n

“It is amazing how the whole community has come together to support families.”<\/p>\n

There was health and emergency information and tips on how children can transition from kindy into school.<\/p>\n

For the kids, there was biscuit decorating, facepainting, music and prizes. Even the Kingaroy Men’s Shed got into the act, showing children how to drive a nail!<\/p>\n

Special guest for the day was “singing author” Deano Yipadee.<\/p>\n

Kitchen Fire Demo<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

The QFES kitchen fire demonstration was popular with the crowd at Under 8s Day.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kingaroy Fire Station Officer Bruce Groer demonstrated what happens if you try to put out an oil fire on the stove with water.<\/p>\n

The water instantly turns to steam and expands to 1700 times its size, and the boiling oil explodes.<\/p>\n
