Murgon-Cherbourg Youth Hub manager Gaye O’Sullivan is taking bookings now for the Youth Mental First Aid course which will begin next month<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

June 22, 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Youth Mental Health First Aid course for parents and carers will be offered by Darling Downs Health at the Murgon-Cherbourg Youth Hub from next month.<\/p>\n

The course is an opportunity for parents and carers of young people to learn how to provide initial support to adolescents who may be developing a mental health problem or suffering a mental health crisis.<\/p>\n

The course is free and participants will receive a manual and certificate upon completion.<\/p>\n

It will run over four sessions, from 10:00am to 1:00pm, on July 20, July 27, August 3 and August 10.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The course will be delivered by senior psychologist Anita Smith.<\/p>\n

Mental health problems include depression, anxiety, eating disorders or substance abuse.<\/p>\n

Mental health crises include suicidal thoughts and behaviours, self-injury, panic attacks, aggressive behaviours and severe psychotic states.<\/p>\n

Participants will learn about adolescent development and the signs and symptoms of mental health problems.<\/p>\n
