The South Burnett Thrashers rugby union side had a tough Saturday in Toowoomba when they came up against the the Rangers.<\/p>\n

Club president Jamie Shirlaw said many players were unavailable due to injuries or other commitments.<\/p>\n

“We only had 16 players with a retired Thrasher putting on boots to make up numbers,” he said.<\/p>\n

The Thrashers were down 19-0 at half-time but fought back in the second half with Marcus Jensen scoring three tries in the second half..<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ryan McDonald kicked one conversion.<\/p>\n

“Unfortunately the fightback was not enough for us to win the game with the Rangers winning 41-17,” Jamie said.<\/p>\n

“Next weekend we play Gatton at USQ in Toowoomba then have a week off due to a full round bye.<\/p>\n

“On July 9, our last home game of the season will be against the Chinchilla River Rats. This will be our Old Boys day.<\/p>\n

“The curtain raiser for the main match will be the Old Thrashers taking on the West Brisbane Bullfrogs.<\/p>\n

“The Queensland Reds, in conjunction with Westpac, will be presenting the club with a scrum machine. The Reds will also be helping out around the ground.<\/p>\n

“After the games at 7:00pm there will be a dinner at the Kingaroy Hotel celebrating all of the Old Boys who came back and played and supported the new Thrashers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Tickets are available at the Kingaroy Hotel for $50.<\/p>\n

“At the dinner former Wallaby and Reds player Bill Ross will be speaking before the club auctions off signed jerseys from the Wallabies and Reds.<\/p>\n

“All current and former Thrashers players and supporters are encouraged to come along to celebrate rugby being played in South Burnett again.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
