The LNP held on to the safe seat of Callide at the weekend by-election with candidate Bryson Head securing almost 50 per cent of first preference votes.<\/p>\n

Electoral Commission of Queensland figures on Monday morning showed Mr Head with 49.84 per cent of primary votes, ahead of the ALP’s Bronwyn Dendle with 19.57 per cent.<\/p>\n

  • BURLING, Adam – Katter’s Australian Party (KAP) – 2379<\/li>\n
  • LOHSE, Sharon – Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Queensland Division – 3493<\/li>\n
  • HEAD, Bryson – Liberal National Party of Queensland – 12,096<\/li>\n
  • DENDLE, Bronwyn – Australian Labor Party (State of Queensland) – 4750<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    An ECQ spokesperson said more than 10,600 people turned out to vote at polling booths across the electorate on Saturday.<\/p>\n

    As well, more than 8600 Callide residents voted at Early Voting Centres, more than 830 voted by phone and more than 4170 postal votes had been returned by Saturday.<\/p>\n

    Mr Head, 26, is an exploration geologist based in Chinchilla who has been working in the coal industry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    He was also campaign manager and acting secretary of the Green Shirts Movement, a grass roots political group advocating on behalf of farmers on hot-button issues such as Reef Regulations and live cattle exports.<\/span><\/p>\n

    During 2020-21, Mr Head worked with the National Recovery and Resilience Agency to support communities affected by drought in south-west Queensland.<\/p>\n

    In a statement released on Saturday, Mr Head said the LNP victory was not just a win for him.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    “It\u2019s a win for our rural and regional communities. It\u2019s also a win for the incredible team behind me,” he said.<\/p>\n

    “I could not have done this without the generous support of loyal volunteers, and for this I say a whole hearted thank you.<\/p>\n

    “I\u2019d like to mention our LNP Leader, David Crisafulli MP, and the rest of the LNP team who have been incredible with their support along the way.<\/p>\n

    “I am committed to being a strong voice for Callide, it\u2019s what you\u2019ve elected me on and it\u2019s what I will be.<\/p>\n

    “I\u2019ll fight relentlessly to protect our local industries, fight to fix the broken health system and rural and regional roads. And I\u2019ll also be fighting for our fair share of water infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n

    “As the youngest member of Queensland Parliament, I feel incredibly honoured.<\/p>\n

    “I\u2019d also like to acknowledge my fellow candidates Fabrice, Paula, Adam, Sharon and Bronwyn.<\/p>\n
