South Burnett residents are being challenged to help shape a better future for the region by sharing their ideas at a leadership forum to be held in Murgon next month.<\/p>\n

The inaugural Red Earth Leadership Forum will be held at Murgon Town Hall on July 28.<\/p>\n

Guest speaker will be Bega Cheese executive chairman Barry Irvin AM who has a keen interest in the Burnett region through Bega’s investment in the Peanut Company of Australia.<\/p>\n

Barry led the development of a “circularity plan” for the Bega region in southern NSW.<\/p>\n

This vision, launched last year, aims to create a “circular economy” for the Bega region and has been supported by the local council, schools and businesses.<\/p>\n

It involves the development of an economic system which would eliminate waste and minimise the continual input of new resources.<\/p>\n

The Red Earth Community Foundation (RECF), which is organising the Murgon forum, believes it\u2019s regional Australia\u2019s time to shine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe know there is so much change occurring around us, and for our region, and so Red Earth is working to provide our region with the chance to be involved in what the future might look like,” RECF chair Georgie Somerset said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve recently come out of an extended drought period and experienced two floods this year; we are highly skilled at adapting to the environment around us, we have many industries managing change effectively, and Red Earth believes the people of the Burnett Inland can co-design their future effectively.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know Barry will inspire our region to consider what assets and opportunities we have.<\/p>\n

“Alongside our local leaders, he will share some of his leadership journey, and reflect on what he sees in the Burnett Inland as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cParticipants at the forum will have a chance to get involved \u2013 bringing their ideas for what will make our region an even better place for all, and working with other people\u2019s ideas as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are looking for individuals to come along, as well as people from industry and community groups to participate on the day, and all levels of government.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Red Earth Leadership Forum will run from 9:00am to 7:00pm and include morning and afternoon teas, lunch and a light dinner.<\/p>\n
