Toowoomba mayor Paul Antonio says he is looking forward to hearing more from the State Government about the Toowoomba to Warwick water pipeline.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile we\u2019ve been given updates on the project over the past year or so, we weren\u2019t aware there would be an announcement yesterday until I received a call in the morning from the Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing and Minister for Water (Glenn Butcher).<\/p>\n

\u201cSince the announcement, Minister Butcher has again been in contact with myself and I welcome further discussions on the matter as it\u2019s important we understand the full details of the proposal.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn all discussions to date, we\u2019ve made it clear that we\u2019re not only concerned about our water security now, but our future water security and the impact this will have on our water infrastructure.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to protect our water future and to make sure this pipeline won\u2019t come at the cost of our ratepayers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWhile we understand the needs of Southern Downs and are sympathetic to their situation, our priority is our region and our residents \u2013 we need to do what\u2019s best for our community.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this stage we\u2019re unclear on how this pipeline will work so it\u2019s important we have the necessary conversations before we commit to the project.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn saying this, from the information we\u2019ve seen, I\u2019m pleased our southern townships have been included in the proposed line and the focus from the State Government on water security.<\/p>\n

\u201cI look forward to hearing more about the pipeline in the coming days.\u201d<\/p>\n
