More COVID-19 restrictions will ease this weekend in Queensland with the lifting of the mask mandate inside airports.<\/p>\n

Health Minister Yvette D\u2019Ath said the State Government would adopt the recommendation of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee to ease the mandate from midnight on June 17 (Friday).<\/p>\n

\u201cAHPPC considers that it is no longer proportionate to mandate mask use in airport terminals,\u201d Minister D’Ath said.<\/p>\n

However,\u00a0 passengers will still be required to wear masks on planes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith COVID-19 and influenza still circulating in our community, we\u2019re still encouraging Queenslanders to be vigilant,” Minister D’Ath said<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re in an indoor setting and can\u2019t socially distance, consider wearing a mask.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re also encouraging people yet to receive the COVID vaccine to come forward for vaccination and remind people they can also get a free flu vaccination.\u201d<\/p>\n

The toll from COVID-19 within the Darling Downs Health region rose to 43 this week, with the latest death reported in statistics released on Tuesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Five of these deaths have occurred in June but there is no indication of where in the DDH region these fatalities occurred.<\/p>\n

When the Queensland border re-opened on December 13, the death toll in the DDH region stood at two.<\/p>\n

Thirteen more deaths were reported across Queensland during the past 24 hours, taking the Queensland tally since the pandemic began to 1139. All but seven have occurred since December 13.<\/p>\n

A total of 4184 new cases were announced on Wednesday morning, taking the estimated number of active COVID-19 cases in the State to 22,674.<\/p>\n

There are currently 391 people being treated for COVID-19 in Queensland hospitals, including five in intensive care units.<\/p>\n

Since January 2020, a total of 1,232,417 people in Queensland have officially contracted COVID-19, including 37,486 First Nations residents.<\/p>\n

Officially, a total of 1185 people in South Burnett and 299 in Cherbourg have had COVID-19 since the pandemic began, with all but three cases occurring since December 13.<\/p>\n

                NB. Data is reported by Queensland Health daily but can vary over time due to case reviews. Numbers for all regions must also be considered underestimated. Not everyone who has tested positive using a Rapid Antigen Test has reported their result to Queensland Health. Not everyone who has had a mild dose of the disease has been tested. Also, the official statistics show 695,593 positive results (as at June 14) which have not been allocated to a Local Government Area since the pandemic began.<\/em><\/p>\n
