The State Government has confirmed funding to construct the controversial Wivenhoe Dam to Warwick pipeline – with offshoots to provide water to Nobby, Clifton, Greenmount and Cambooya.<\/p>\n

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced a $300 million commitment after hosting a community Cabinet meeting in Stanthorpe.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know that residents and the Toowoomba and Southern Downs regional councils want certainty about this project,” the Premier said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe pre-construction phase could start within the next few months, with a proposed completion date of mid-2026, subject to consultation with the councils.<\/p>\n

\u201cConstruction of the pipeline will deliver approximately 420 jobs to the local communities, as well as long-term water security.”<\/p>\n

Water Minister Glenn Butcher said the project would deliver a reliable drought contingency supply for Southern Downs communities and provide a permanent water supply for the Toowoomba communities of Nobby, Clifton, Greenmount and Cambooya.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile we\u2019ve provided support to the Southern Downs through carting water and Toowoomba has been carting to its smaller satellite communities, we know locals want to see these issues fixed and this is a huge step forward,\u201d Mr Butcher said.<\/p>\n

He assured Toowoomba residents the pipeline would not affect their existing water supply.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The pipeline will carry water from Wivenhoe Dam and connect with Toowoomba Regional Council\u2019s existing water infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Seqwater has delivered detailed designs for the pipeline and will continue working with stakeholders moving into the delivery phase of the pipeline project.<\/p>\n
