An “orchestral jazz” workshop kept members of the South Burnett Community Orchestra busy at the weekend as they practised under the eyes of specialist tutors.<\/p>\n

The orchestra was split into three parts for the workshop, held at the Kingaroy Uniting Church in Alford Street on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Visiting tutor Rohan Hardy put the woodwind section through their paces, while Jeff Jarratt led the percussionists.<\/p>\n

Orchestra conductor Jo Kennedy led the strings.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon, the three sections came together to test their new skills in combination.<\/p>\n

The SBCO plans to perform their new jazz works at their end-of-year concert, which will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall from 6:30pm on November 19.<\/p>\n

This concert will also feature excerpts from “My Fair Lady” and an Elvis Presley tribute.<\/p>\n

The workshop was funded by the South Burnett Regional Council’s Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).<\/p>\n

The SBC Pop Orchestra – an offshoot of the SBCO – will be holding a concert of their own at Kingaroy Town Hall next month.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This concert, which will be held from 3:00pm on June 26,<\/strong>\u00a0will feature music from the stage and screen as well as classic rock.<\/p>\n

Tickets can be bought at Kingaroy Office Central in Haly Street, or from the SBCO website<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
