LNP Member for Maranoa David Littleproud … was first elected to Federal Parliament in 2016 and has been a frequent visitor to the South Burnett since then<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Member for Maranoa David Littleproud has been elected leader of the Nationals.<\/p>\n

The party room vote was held in Canberra on Monday morning.<\/p>\n

Mr Littleproud, the former Agriculture Minister and Deputy Nationals leader, defeated Barnaby Joyce in the contest.<\/p>\n

He will now serve as Deputy Opposition Leader.<\/p>\n

NSW Senator Perin Davey was elected Deputy Leader of the Nationals.<\/p>\n

Senator Perin has served as the Nationals’ Whip in the Senate since July 2019.<\/p>\n

Mr Littleproud, the son of former State National Party MP Brian Littleproud, was first elected to the Federal Parliament in 2016, and re-elected in 2019 and 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“To be elected leader is one of the proudest moments of my life,” Mr Littleproud said.<\/p>\n

“I effectively became a member of The Nationals 40 years ago as a six-year-old boy handing out for my father in Chinchilla in a State election.”<\/p>\n

Earlier on Monday, Peter Dutton was elected as the new Liberal Party leader, with Sussan Ley as his deputy.<\/p>\n
