May 27, 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n

Friday marked the start of National Reconciliation Week, May 27 – June 3, which this year has the theme, “Be Brave, Make Change”.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Regional Council says the week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about our ancient and more recent shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to think about how as a regional community we can contribute to Reconciliation in Australia.<\/p>\n

Mayor Brett Otto said the week should be a time of reflection, “a time to engage in \u2018truth telling\u2019 about our past and work with First Nations peoples across our region to foster a brighter future for all”.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a close relationship with all First Nation groups, in particular our sister Council at Cherbourg and will always recognise the importance of working together,\u201d Mayor Otto said.<\/p>\n

Indigenous Affairs portfolio holder Cr Kathy Duff said the SBRC had worked closely with First Nations residents on the process of Reconciliation, and would continue to do so as a key priority for the region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
